5 Sacred Heart School Students Were Inducted by the Catholic Schools Foundation into Eighth Class of Peter S. Lynch Scholars

Tuesday, October 24th, Newton, MA – At Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Newton, MA,  a Mass was celebrated by Bishop Reed, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston, to induct the eighth class of Peter Lynch Scholars. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Brian Flynn. For the 2017-2018 school year, 5 Sacred Heart School Students were among the 192 elementary students to be inducted into the eighth class of Peter Lynch (PL) Scholars by the Catholic Schools Foundation. Our Scholars joined PL Scholars from 51 Catholic elementary schools across the Greater Boston Area.

Mr. Lynch, known for his successful career as a money manager at Fidelity Investments, is a longtime supporter of Boston’s Catholic Schools and serves as chairman emeritus for the Catholic Schools Foundation. In his honor, The Peter Lynch (PL) Scholars Program was established in 2010 to honor Mr. Lynch’s involvement with the Catholic Schools Foundation and the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. Each Catholic elementary school selects their PL Scholars based upon, among other criteria, his or her grades, work ethic, and demonstrated care and concern for others in the school community and beyond.

Bishop Reed was accompanied by Michael B. Reardon, Executive Director of the Catholic Schools Foundation and Kathy Mears, Superintendent for Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Boston. Catholic Schools Foundation Board Members Tom Corra, Robert Cunjak, Brian Gallagher and Peter Lynch were also in attendance. “It is because of Peter Lynch’s dedication and commitment to Catholic education that these scholarships are possible. He, along with the rest of the Catholic Schools Foundation, believes in you and your potential to succeed,” Mike Reardon said while addressing the Peter Lynch Scholars inductees of 2017. The Mass music was provided by the choir from Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton.
